The Simpsons are popular in France as well as the U.S.

Last night we went out for our walk fairly late.  We decided to down the rue St. Charles, one of the market streets in our neighborhood.  We discovered a new grocery store on the way back home, on the rue des Entrepreneurs.  It is called Monop’, and it is a small form of Monoprix that is open from 9AM until MIDNIGHT, Monday through Saturday!!!  It will be great not to have to worry about getting to the ED grocery before 8PM.  And the Monop’ is downright peaceful compared to Monoprix (which is open until 10PM).

The Monop’ windows don’t say whether this store accepts American Express, as Monoprix does.

Because of the lateness of our walk, we did not sit down to dinner until about 9:30 – just a simple dinner of taboule with chopped tomatoes and a few thin slices of already-roasted chicken breast.  The phone rang at about that time, and it was Susan and Jeff from Ohio, who are staying now in the 8th arrondissement.  They had followed my recommendation for dining at l’Alchimie (34 rue Letelier, 15th arrondissement, telephone 01-45-75-55-95) and it was a hugely successful dinner, prepared by chef Eric Rogoff.  We asked them to come over after dinner and they did.  It was so nice to have another chance to catch up with them.

Dan just came over to say Mary’s all worked up about the phone not working in the newer apartment.  I don’t know why they need a phone when they can just come over here to use ours.  And it would be better if they just went out and enjoyed this beautiful day in Paris.  Anyway, I found another set of instructions on free.fr for them to try in order to get the phone going.  (It is a VOIP system that uses the internet instead of traditional phone lines.)  Aaargh.  They may come over for dinner this evening.

I’ve been practicing reading French out loud, as Elisabeth suggested, and I think it is helping.  Listening to the Tour de France sports announcers also helps.  Time to go do that now!
