This is a big day in Paris.  The Tour de France comes into town, and the winners are going to be recognized on the Champs Elysées, which some people call the most beautiful avenue in the world.

I won’t try to defend that claim, but I do like the part of the Champs that is mostly majestic trees and that does not have any shops.  Seeing the Arc de Triomphe at the end is grand, too.

Today is also a Sunday, a great day for walking along the Seine, which we do shortly.

Yesterday evening, we had a simple family dinner at a local brasserie on the avenue Emile Zola.  We started by sharing a country terrine, which was good but unremarkable. We ate fish, a filet de sandre, and fries.  The fish came with a serviceable white sauce, but was only warm, not hot.  Tom, Dan, and Mary shared a cherry clafoutis for dessert.  I had a taste.  It was good.

The brasserie was redone a couple years ago, and so it now has a very pleasant décor, and perfect, warm, mellow lighting.  It isn’t crowded.  Just a nice place to be. And the service is friendly.  Prices are very reasonable.

It is called Le Select, at 143 avenue Emile Zola, telephone 01-45-75-09-40.  There are at least three places in Paris called Le Select and I have yet to figure out if they are at all related to each other.  I think not, based on what I see on the internet.

Le Select on avenue Emile Zola is smaller and much more modest than Le Select on the boulevard Montparnasse, which is another favored dining place for us.  The place on boulevard Montparnasse also has the advantage of a fine cat in residence.  He’s usually snoozing at the end of the bar and the top of the stairs, and he expects to be petted and spoiled.

If the weather were not so nice today, we might have considered going to the free Tarzan movie showing in the theatre at the Musée du Quai Branly.  I think this is the last in the series of free Tarzan movies.  Why the museum considers Tarzan movies to be worthy of its purpose is a little mystifying to me.  But what the hey, it sounds like fun.

You readers also make life fun.  I love hearing from you.  Thanks especially to Carolyn, Pete, Lennie, Bob, and Carla for the nice things you wrote this week.  Peace and love to you all.  You keep me going.
