Waiting is exhausting. We did a lot of waiting yesterday, as we
closed on a real estate purchase of 3.6 acres of tropical
hardwood hammock back in Florida, on Sanibel Island. The land had been owned by a Sarasota
family since 1925. So I don’t have fun
adventures in Paris to tell you about today, other than my vacuuming the
apartment. It was an exciting day for
us, however. The six-hour time
difference was frustrating, because we still had not received word that the
closing was completed when 8PM rolled around.
So we simply grabbed the smartphone and strolled down to the
neighborhood pub, Café le Commerce (not the Café du Commerce restaurant), for
a casual dinner. I’ve been making snide
remarks about 20-euro hamburgers in restaurants here in Paris. Last night, I had a 14-euro cheeseburger at
the café. Now somehow 14 euros seems
more reasonable. But of course it is
ridiculous. Nevertheless, it was a
pretty great cheeseburger. And the
fries, of which I can only eat a few, were perfectly delicious and piping
hot. Tom had the veal scallopini
with a mushroom sauce, as I did last time we dined there. He ate all of his fries, and I don’t blame
him. This was comfort food to ease the
anxiety of waiting. The café was busy, as
usual, but even busier than usual perhaps because an enormous family of
Asians were dining there to celebrate some occasion. After we came home, at
about 11PM, we finally received word that the closing was done. I tried to read Professor Jones’ Paris, but soon fell into a deep
sleep. So let’s go back to the
Jardin des Plantes, in early July, and see the roses when they were just
barely past their peek.
