One of the highlights of our trip to Munich was going to the GOP theatre to see a show called “Angell.” It was about a fallen angel who was trying to learn to fly again. It seemed a bit like a very well done Vaudevillian ballet. The theatre is set up as a dinner theatre, so we had drinks and snacks during the show. Arnold and Mareen did not seem to like the show at first; I think it was not what they expected. We had no expectations, and so therefore we were not disappointed. We were charmed. The dancing was exquisite, and the choreography absolutely lovely. The storyline was cute, and the entire show was well executed. The dancers/actors were from the Cirque Bouffon, which Mareen later learned is from Eastern Germany. Why they have a French name is something we do not know. She was told that all the performers were from Eastern Germany, except one who is from Spain. The creator of Cirque Bouffon, Frederic Zipperlin, was formerly with the famous Cirque du Soleil. Cirque Bouffon is part of the Nouveau Cirque movement. In the story, all of the fallen angel’s friends fly, each in his or her own way. Finally in the end, the fallen angel is able to fly again. Yesterday we began the packing and moving process. Each of us took a heavy little suitcase of clothes over to the 6th via the line 10 metro. This way, today we will be able to fit the two of us plus the remaining luggage into a taxi to make the final move. After we arrived in the 6th yesterday, Tom and I went to dinner with Carol and Ron at Le P’tit Fernand, a restaurant recommended by Bob, the former chairman of Prudential Insurance. No kidding. We shared a duck terrine appetizer, and then Carol and I had the tasty cod fish accompanied by puréed potatoes topped by crumbled chorizo. Tom and Ron each ordered the steak with foie gras on top. The steaks were flavorful, they said, but maybe a little chewy. Ron, Carol and Tom indulged in some divine desserts. It was a lovely dinner, and so much fun to be with Carol and Ron. Afterwards, Tom and I enjoyed the long walk home in the cool dark streets. We didn’t arrive until about 11PM, so I went straight to bed, exhausted after the long walk, and listened to the jazz radio station (TSF Jazz, la seule radio cent pourcent jazz, 89.9) on my Sansa Fuze.
