The main part of the garden is lovely, formal and very French.
The far end of the garden has what looks like the entrance to a chapel. There is also a very strange statue there called the “Hotel de Neige,” or Snow Hotel. Perhaps this is an ironic reference to the luxurious Hotel des Neiges at a French ski resort, Courchevel.
Inscription beneath this memorial, at right, says “To their comrades, dead, victims of their devotion during their internship. The medical interns of the Paris public hospitals.” Yes, health care can be a very dangerous occupation. Correction for
my entry of July 19: Bob S. Writes to
say that in this foot therapy, called reflexology, pins are not stuck in the
feet. Rather, various parts of the
foot are massaged to treat whatever ailments. (I guess I assumed it was pins
because I used to have a friend who was an acupuncturist.) |
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Today we feature photos of the garden at the Hotel Dieu
public hospital by Notre Dame.
Dolphin in the garden at the Hotel Dieu.
The middle part of the garden at the Hotel Dieu seems
to be the ceiling of a parking garage or basement.
Brilliant marigolds planted between meticulously trimmed
boxwood in the Hotel Dieu garden.
